Reading occurs in all rooms in all areas in our house, but most of our children's books are stored here. You can see the various titles. This area has recently received a mini makeover as part of the Playful Learning Spaces E-Course I am participating in.
The changes that I have made to this area include
- categorised the books - my books are on the top shelf, board books on the next shelf, reference books and hardback books on the bottom shelf
- outwardly display some books - previously our books were just stacked, now we have four books displayed outwardly which I rotate, as you would expect the books displayed are the ones most frequently read
- have a library book basket - great idea to keep all the library books together
We have used the Oeuf Mini Library and as you can see (below) it is the perfect height for children.
I won't pretend we are perfectly tidy, most of the time the area really looks like this...
As you can see a lot of reading (and playing) takes place here.
