happy new year
Keeping up with his desire for more.

Breastfeeding, one side only. It's not so strange.

Otis feeding at swimming pool

Recently I was chatting to another mum. She has a son a month or so younger than Otis. She mentioned that she breastfeeds on one side only. "Me too!" I exclaimed. Then I realised I hadn't told anyone before.

Is it common?

When I had my six-week checkup after the birth of Caspar I told my Doctor that he fed easier on one side. She told me that it is entirely possible to breastfeed your baby on one side only. However with Caspar I continued to have difficulty feeding and the oversupply continued forever. I meticulously feed him evenly on both sides.

Feeding Otis was a breeze from the start. It was still more comfortable feeding on one side. After a couple of months I was feeding mostly on my left and only once a day on my right. Eventually I quit feeding on my right side altogether. As it was gradual I never experienced any problems.

The other mother I was speaking to expresses on her other (non-feeding) side as this helps with her let-down.

I didn't think by looking at me you could notice. However today we went to the swimming pool. When I am in my swimmers you can definitely tell the difference. I kept my shirt on the whole time.

Anyone else only use one side? My left side is my dominant side, I wonder if that influences it or is it something else physiological?

P.S I've just updated our About Us page if you'd like to take a look.
