In the Kitchen - 15 months

15 months in the kitchen - transferring food

A week of Otis in the kitchen at fifteen months.

Otis transferring carrots

Otis transferring food. I have my board next to him where I am preparing the food (peeling, cutting etc). When I'm finished with each piece I put it on his board and he transfers it into the steamer/bowl/plate. This is the activity he does the most in the kitchen, he's helping and often samples the food.

Tearing up herbs fresh from the garden

Tearing oregano and then transferring into a pan (for a yummy pasta sauce).

Investigating new foods

Investigating new foods. Otis has seen beetroot on his plate ready to eat but this is the first time he's seen one whole.

Washing spinach

Washing baby spinach.

Learning to clean up

Wiping up spills.

Water play at kitchen sink

Water play at the kitchen sink.

Otis picking herbs

This isn't in the kitchen but it's food related. Picking fresh herbs (that he helped to plant and water).

Scrubbing potatoes

Scrubbing potatoes. Otis doesn't scrub much he just likes to play. Lucky I have Caspar who actually cleans the potatoes. Otis uses a mushroom brush which is nice and small and is easy for him to hold.

Otis has the basic ability to use tongs but prefers to transfer with his hands. Learning to cut will be the next step. I've given him a demonstration but he's not ready for it yet.

Did you notice Otis's little apron? I made it but if you're looking for one to purchase (or ideas on making one yourself) I have a toddler apron post planned for tomorrow.
