Today at Montessori Parent-Toddler
I avoided this because I thought it would be a disaster... I was wrong.

Mops and brooms!

Toddler mop
This is the way my children like to wash the floor. With a mop and a bucket of water. I only put a few centimeters of water in the bucket - they don't need much. Caspar will wear socks or his rain boots. Be careful the floor gets slippery. This is the mop that Otis and Caspar have everyday access to. If they make a spill this is the mop they will use to clean it up.
.
I couldn't find a good child sized mop so I went to our hardware store and purchased the small mop head and a standard broom handle. Using a hand saw I shortened the handle and attached it to the mop. Easy and it only cost a few dollars.

Mop with extendable handle
.
This is the mop that I use to clean the floor. Often while I am cleaning one of the children will take over. This mop has an extendable handle which makes it easy for them to use.

Toddler inside broom
.
This is our children's inside broom. We tried many, most of them were more like toys and fell apart after a couple of weeks. This one (it doesn't have a brand on it but it's made in Germany) has stood the test of time beautifully.
.
Toddler outside broom
.
Our children's outside broom. This is handmade and we picked it up cheaply at a local market. I love the sound it makes when you use it. Otis hasn't quite worked out the correct action but we try lots of role modelling and he's slowly getting there.
.
All of these brooms and mops are still big for Otis (pictured) but they are a good compromise between Caspar (5 years) and Otis (19 months) which means they will be used for many years are worth the time/effort/cost.
