Floorbeds for Fae

Floorbeds for Fae

I'd like to introduce you to our latest sponsor Floorbeds for Fae. When Nicci approached me about sponsorship I knew that I had to ask her some questions and show you some photographs of their unique floor beds.

I see that your business is new. Can you tell us how and why you started Floorbeds for Fae and who makes the floor beds?

The idea for Floorbeds for Fae stemmed from Farron's (aka Fae) first bed. As Farron approached her first birthday, Dave and I excitedly planned her floorbed. He wanted to make something beautiful and magical for his daughter, something that she could be safe and comfortable in too. A lot of our friends had lamented the lack of options for floorbeds, especially double beds or larger for parents who co-sleep. So when they saw Farron's bed and were so impressed we thought perhaps it could be worthwhile making the beds for others. Dave makes the floorbeds in his workshop at home but he does have a local business who automates the cutting the cutting of the curved branches and leaves! The design, plans, assembling and finishing are all Dave though and he is happy to customise orders.
.
Your floor beds are gorgeous and are great for families who want to keep the mattress off the floor. Are your beds custom made?

Yes, the beds are custom made.
.
Floor beds are used by many Montessori families. Are you inspired by Montessori or or do you see the the floor bed just as a practical piece of furniture?
.
They are definitely practical but the treebeds especially were designed to delight a child, so they would be inspired by and love their sleeping space. We have a set of fabric leaves made up in different greens and textures that Farron hangs on the branches. As we approach autumn we will have set of brown/orange/yellow leaves made up to replace her green leaves. Over the holiday period we didn't have time to resurrect our poor neglected Christmas tree so Dave and Fae spent a wonderful morning putting Christmas decorations on her treebed! As a family we try to incorporate Montessori principles into our daily activities and a floorbed fits with this. We co-sleep with Fae and we see a floorbed as really safe transition, both physically and emotionally, towards her sleep independence without forcing it before she is ready.
.
You are on Facebook, how can we ask questions, get a quote or place an order? You are based in Queensland, can you ship to all states?
.
You can send us an email at [email protected], give us a call on 0414916801, or send us a PM or comment on our page on Facebook
.
Do you sell mattresses also?
.
No, with so many options and different preferences for each family that is beyond our capacity right now but maybe sometime in the future!
.
You have Fae testing a stand for the kitchen (click over to the Floorbeds for Fae Facebook page for a sneak peak!). How is the design process going? Do you know how much these will cost and are you taking orders? I think these will be very popular!
.
The prototype we have Fae testing works really well but we'd like to make sure it is a product that will work for older toddlers too. For us value for money is really important, we'd like to keep the kitchen helper under $200 but also ensure it's safe, high quality and can be used for different stages of toddlerdom! We have a few tweaks to make, we need to make sure an older toddler can get in and out easily, we'd also like to make some ventilation holes/slots that look cool but aren't a climbing enticement for an adventurous child, and from a practical point of view we would like to make sure it is topple-proof but still relatively easy for an adult to move around. All of that will be done in the next few days, then we will build a second prototype before listing them to order in early February.

Floorbeds for Fae

Floor beds frames are hard to find especially in Australia so I was thrilled read about Floorbeds for Fae. For further information see the Floorbeds for Fae Facebook page.
