Getting ready for (Montessori) school
Five Minute Montessori - Lock and Key

A love of learning must come first

Developing a love of learning #2

I know a lot of parents feel anxious about their children's learning. As a friend recently asked me in a different context - what are you afraid of? Are we afraid, are we worried that our children aren't learning enough? I don't know. What I know is that we cannot force our children to learn. A love of learning must come first. A love of learning is something that we can nurture and reinforce with our children.

Montessori isn't play based. The children are working and so proudly so. But this desire to work comes from within. It's not so much what they are learning as how they are learning. I would rather my child read at six and love it than read at four under pressure.
