Inspiring Homeschool Links and More
This week I've been looking for a couple of 'extra' indoor activities for the boys to enjoy out of the rain. We have been spending lots of time outdoors but extra time inside this week. I love mandalas and thought these printables would be a great way for my children to experiment with numeracy, colour and pattern. Best of all this set was two dollars. I also really love this one. Both children have been using it, Caspar in more imaginative ways and Otis has been building basic structures and patterns.
The most inspiring homeschooling community I've seen at Wild + Free. The current bundle Imagine includes a Nature Journal Podcast which I found really useful. My children will be attending a Montessori school this year so I don't classify us as homeschoolers, however they still nature journal at home and I found this so practical. I think it's important to hear how other parents take different approaches and this podcast about nature journalling is fantastic. The bundle contains heaps of other information recipes, downloads but most of all I enjoyed the Home-School Styles download. It beautifully captures the homeschooling styles of Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, Classical Conversations, Montessori and Unschooling. It's the first time I've seen this information in such a non-judgemental, supportive and inspirational way - and the photographs are stunning. It really helped me understand all of these approaches. In the bundles there are also familiar faces including Eve and her wonderful family in the Wonder bundle.
At some time in their young lives preschoolers become interested in life cycles. They begin to notice that there are differences in how animals are born or want to know about metamorphosis. I've seen this in a class environment but I love how Rachel has raised chicks at home, it looks like an amazing experience. Not ready to take on chicks just yet I'm loving these life cycle kits - hopefully my boys will get to release some butterflies soon.
My boys are on school holidays until the end of the month so I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.
