What can I do with my baby (6-12 months)?
When I first started reading about Montessori I had no idea how it related to babies. It wasn't until I had my second child that I really got my head around it. Here are a few Montessori inspired activities that we did when my son was six to twelve months old.
Begin to use the pincer. (Pictured Happy Baby Organic Puffs)
Textured fabric basket. All the fabric is the same or similar colour (no distractions) but with noticeably different texture.
A small (three item) treasure basket.
Finger Painting - a sensory experience.
Further pincer grasp work. (Similar block available here)
Sitting and working on simple puzzles. (This is a simple shape puzzle with large knobs)
Another discovery basket and more ideas here.
Store materials on low shelves and consider low hanging art work.
Of course there is a lot going on in this period. Between six to twelve months the child is introduced to solids (perhaps the weaning glass) and starts crawling and possibly walking. This is a simple snap shot of some of the activities we did during this period.
You can read in the archives Otis at six months, seven months, eight months, nine months, ten months, eleven months and to look ahead further you can read What can I do with my one year old.
I hope you are enjoying this series!
