What's On Our Shelves - Bedroom
Today was a public holiday so I've just written a short post sharing some of the materials Otto has on his bedroom shelves. I like to have a few materials in his room for him to use before and after bedtime. The wonderful part of having a floor bed is that when he wakes he can turn on his own music, read a book or play with some toys. Also when he is getting sleepy he can play with his toys and slowly make his way to bed.
We don't rotate the materials or books in Otto's bedroom as often as we do his toys in our downstairs living area because he doesn't use them as much. Perhaps we rotate the materials every month, but if there is something he really isn't using I'll just rotate it out as soon as I notice. We always leave out favourites, the ball push has been out for many months.
Magnet tray! This has been a big hit
Usually, there are two magnetic wands on this tray. A lot of the materials in Otto's room he will play with his brothers.
A simple puzzle. Later I will put more on this tray but Otto is still learning how the puzzle pulls apart and goes back together. These aren't photographic but they are lifelike enough for me. (Puzzle UK link here).
We haven't formally introduced card to card matching but this little Loto game is fun to play. Often we will have two cards, so Otis and Otto can play together - not competitively, they will take turns taking a square and see which card it matches. This is lovely language work too. As with all of Otto's materials I try to keep them relevant to his life, he has seen all of these animals in real life and most are backyard or neighbourhood animals.
Tractors are a favourite, we see them in our neighbourhood and on the roads regularly. This model toy and book are good for exploring this interest. Our shelves are c/o Sprout. You can see a full tour of Otto's bedroom here.
I hope you enjoyed your long weekend!
