We've recently discovered a new Montessori picture book and I think you will like it!! The Little Montessori Me Picture Book (US) and (UK) by Inez Bunclark. It takes the reader gently through the day of a young child starting with a walk to a lake, practical life activities like emptying the washing machine, sweeping, watering plants, then onto playing with toys, gardening, climbing a Pikler triangle, reading, art, care of self activities like brushing hair and cleaning hands, working in the kitchen, mealtime, rest and sleep time. A full day!
It is wonderful to see a book written about the day and rhythm of a Montessori child, including the activities many of us do at home!
The story is set in a Montessori-style home, with low shelves for the child's toys, low bookshelves, low mirror in care of self area, kitchen helper, small child size weaning type table, and low floor bed. The author emphasizes the focus of the Montessori home is not the materials but these are some of the things you will recognise and that your child may find familiar. The story is told through the eyes of a young child in rhyme.
The Little Montessori Me Picture Book is written and illustrated by primary school teacher and mother, Inez Bunclark. Inez couldn't find a picture book for her daughter that reflected the things they were doing at home, so she wrote one! No matter what your home looks like, or how much you implement Montessori at home, chances are there will be something in here you can relate to. I love that children will be able to point out the things they see and do in their homes.
The Little Montessori Me Picture Book (US) (UK) is a lovely addition to Montessori toddler and preschooler bookshelves. It is in A4 size, I would love to see this as a board book, for longevity I recommend covering it before presenting it to a young child.
