Learning About Clouds! ๐ฅโ๏ธ๐งโ
In the last couple of weeks, Sydney has had some crazy, stormy and rainy weather. It's been the perfect time to study clouds! Above Otto (4yrs) tells me the clouds look like waves.
The Cloud Identifier is hands down THE BEST tool we've used for studying clouds. It helps us to identify the clouds we are looking at, but more importantly, it has sparked a huge interest in clouds and what they look like. After we began using the Cloud Identifier, Otto started asking about clouds throughout the day and while we are out and about.
The Cloud Identifier is in the Benedykt and Sylvester, Premium Weather & Seasons Box which is only available to monthly subscribers. Benedykt & Sylvester ship worldwide, yes, even to Australia!! (Our subscription box is c/o Benedykt & Sylvester).
It's the perfect size to put in our backpack and use at the nature reserve or at the park. We use it after taking a ride on the scooter.
We take it to the beach!
And pretty much use it everywhere we go. โค๏ธโ๏ธ
We started looking closer at the different types of clouds and their characteristics. I love the names of clouds, this is also valuable language work. The above materials including art materials are also from the Weather & Seasons Box.
Look at the pictures of clouds!! Three-part cards from the Weather & Seasons Box.
To explain a little more about each type of cloud I made a flip-style book from a Types of Clouds Nomenclature Book. This is a download that I printed at home.
We love to do the rain cloud science experiment.
Once we bought foam shaving cream, we had enough materials to try this many times.
This is a classic! Painting the sky. I put a children's table outside with some paint and mirrors.
I presented different blue, grey and white paints.
We can also draw clouds! I've presented blue card with blue, white and grey small pastels. I'm going to keep presenting this to see if his drawings of the clouds change.
We've been reading about clouds. Our two absolute favourite books about clouds are What are clouds? lift the flap book and Clouds.
What are clouds? lift the flap book is fun and engaging for younger children, perfect for the preschool age.
This is a sturdy board book. (Also available at Kmart AU)
Clouds is a Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science book. I can read it to Otto (4yrs), but it's not a book he goes to himself, perhaps when he is older. I would recommend it for readers 5yrs+.
It has lots of interesting and useful information!!
